- "There are two ways of doing things: the Great Western way, or the wrong way."
- ― Duck
The Great Western Railway (abbreviated as GWR) was a railway company on the Mainland.
History with Sodor[]
Duck was the first Great Western engine to make his way to Sodor. He was later joined by Oliver and Toad following their escape from the scrap yard. All three are painted in Great Western colours and run a branch line nicknamed "the Little Western" due to its fleet of Great Western stock.[1]
Duck later recounted his time working with the Slip Coaches on the Sunshine Line to the engines at Tidmouth Sheds. Following this, Sir Topham Hatt purchased the same three Slip Coaches which Duck had worked with to help out with the heavy Summer traffic. They were originally given to James (who claimed the idea as his own), but were later given to Duck after James was found out.[2] They have since continued to work primarily with Duck and have joined him, Oliver and Toad on the Little Western.

- Duck's US Take Along character card.
- Duck's Character Gallery segment on the US VHS/DVD release of Hooray for Thomas and Other Adventures.
- Duck's section in the US/Canadian release of DVD Bingo.
