― Thomas and a cow

Happy Birthday, Thomas! is a children's book published by Random House Books as part of the company's Step into Reading series.

A digital edition of the book narrated by Michael Brandon is included on the Thomas' Sodor Celebration! DVD. It is accompanied by a trivia game that tests viewers' knowledge on the events of the book, with correct answers rewarding clues for selecting the right gifts for Thomas' party.

Plot

It is Thomas' birthday, and he wants a party instead of having to work, but Sir Topham Hatt says that he has to run his branch line. Later, Thomas sees Henry, Gordon and James in Tidmouth Sheds, where they do not appear to be doing any work nor do they seem to acknowledge his birthday. At the end of the day, Thomas is making his last journey home when a cow blocks the line. After the animal moves off the tracks, he goes back to the sheds, where Sir Topham Hatt is waiting. He then opens the door to reveal a surprise birthday party prepared by the workmen, Henry, Gordon and James, much to Thomas' delight.
