“I love weddings."
"Did you like your kiss?”
―Thomas teasing Percy

Happy Ever After is the nineteenth episode of the fifth series. It aired alongside Busy Going Backwards during an airing of Storytime with Thomas in the US.

It's holiday time on the Island of Sodor. Percy is taking some trucks to Brendam Docks when he sees Terence working in a field close to the line. Terence tells him "it's a nice day for it." Percy is confused as to what "it" is, to which Terence replies by telling him Mrs. Kyndley's daughter is getting married today. Percy remembers and agrees, then he continues on his way. Further up the line, Mrs. Kyndley waves him down; she says she has forgotten the good luck package for the wedding, which contains "something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue." She then asks if they can help, and Percy's driver states they will see what they can do. At Wellsworth, Percy stops to take on water and asks Edward about the good luck package and how to find it. Edward says they may be closer than Percy thinks and leaves to pick up the guests for the wedding.

Arriving at the docks, Percy looks around and finds a new set of buffers on a flatbed, saying it fits as "something new." His driver speaks with the Foreman, who lets them use it and also to borrow the flatbed, satisfying the criteria in "something new" and "something borrowed" for the package. Percy's driver assures Percy they will find the other things as they take the flatbed with the buffers and their other trucks to Tidmouth Hault. While shunting his train into a siding, he finds Old Slow Coach, who he and Thomas saved from being scrapped. Percy tells Old Slow Coach about the good luck package and decides to use her for the "something old" object. With them now only needing the "something blue," Percy wonders where he can find it. His driver tells him that he will see, and Percy sets off with the buffers and Old Slow Coach.

Soon, Percy and his train arrive at the Fishing Village, where the wedding will take place. There is an old engine shed ahead, and Percy meets a ribbon-adorned Thomas, who declares he is the "something blue". With the package complete, Percy's driver reveals to Percy that Mrs. Kyndley has chosen him to be her special guest, much to his joy. So Thomas pulls the train to the wedding, and Percy follows, having wedding streamers tied to his funnel. At the church, the bride and groom leave for the reception just as the engines arrive. The Fat Controller announces the Good Luck Package, all found by Percy and his crew. Mrs. Kyndley's daughter delightedly thanks the engines and even kisses Percy, much to Thomas' mirth as Percy blushes. Later that night, Percy declares he loves weddings while Thomas cheekily asks if he enjoyed his kiss. Embarrassed, though, Percy closes his eyes and pretends he is asleep.

  • Bulstrode makes a cameo, albeit with his face and eye mechanism removed.
  • Mrs. Kyndley appears differently from how she did in Thomas' Christmas Party. This episode also marks her first speaking role since Daisy.
  • A reference to Thomas, Percy and Old Slow Coach is made.
  • Story elements from this episode are similar ones to the magazine story, The Wedding Engine!
  • When Sir Topham Hatt presented the Good Luck Package, everything except the flatbed truck (specifically, Old Slow Coach, Thomas and the buffers) had a horseshoe attached to them. Horseshoes are typical lucky charms for some people.
  • This episode marks the first appearance of Percy's smug face mask since the second series episode, The Deputation.
  • This episode marks Mrs. Kyndley's Daughter and The Wedding Guests' only appearance.
  • This episode marks last of several things:
    • Terence's last speaking role and the last appearances of Hackenbeck Tunnel and Terence's Field until the twenty-first series episode, Terence Breaks the Ice as well as Terence's last speaking role in the model series.
    • Old Slow Coach's last appearance.
    • The last time Wellsworth Station is referred to as Edward's station.
    • The last time Percy's smug face mask is used, but modified with pink cheeks for blushing.
    • The last time when Thomas' chuckling face appeared with less teeth. From the sixth to the twelfth series, it gained more teeth as a resemble grinning face.
  • The Westminster Chimes as heard in the overture of the 1970 film Scrooge are used for the bells at the wedding. They were also used in the sixth series song, Winter Wonderland. They are accompanied by a chorus of trumpets and a piano, all of which are barely audible in the UK version.
  • Izzy Gomez, S.S. Vienna, Big Mickey, several fishing boats, schooners and shrimpers, the steel company and the white industrial tank from TUGS appear in the episode.
  • The model of Bulgy's Bridge is used for Hackenbeck Tunnel in this episode.
  • This episode is titled Percy and the Special Present on The Roku Channel.
  • In the US, this episode was aired before Thomas, Percy and Old Slow Coach, meaning the American audience may not have known who Old Slow Coach was unless they had already seen said episode on the Cranky Bugs and Other Thomas Stories release.

  • Annie and Clarabel have their refurbishments, which they are not supposed to receive until the next episode, and Clarabel is facing the wrong way.
  • Thomas, Old Slow Coach and the new buffers all have a horseshoe on them, but the truck does not.
  • In some shots of the wedding scene, a gap can be seen between Thomas' eyes and his face mask.
  • Percy's lamp disappears when he is at the docks.
  • In the scene of Mrs. Kyndley waving the flag, she is wearing a yellow shirt and a green skirt. In the closeup shot of her, she is wearing a brown coat.
  • When Percy puffs through Tidmouth Hault, his driver is not wearing his cap. The back of his head and his body are also missing.
  • In a deleted scene, Percy is missing at the wedding.

Percy: We've got to find a good luck package. Do you know what that is?
Edward: Oh, yes, indeed. Something old, something new...
Percy: Something borrowed, and something blue. But where do we find them?
Edward: They're probably staring you in your smokebox. Now, I have to fetch my special train. I'm taking guests to the wedding.

Percy: I love weddings.
Thomas: UK dub: Did you like your kiss? / US dub: Did you enjoy your kiss?
[Percy closes his eyes and pretends to sleep]
