Hat on the Line is a magazine story.
Plot[]
It is a spendid day on Sodor and The Fat Controller is waiting for Thomas at the main station. One passenger at the station is a man holding a very long and tall bag. Inside it is a fishing pole. The man is planning on going fishing at a river up the line. Suddenly, the man's bag accidentally hits The Fat Controller's top hat. The man apologises and notices the hat roll off the platform and onto the line.
At that moment, Thomas arrives. The man and The Fat Controller call out for Thomas to stop. Thomas wonders what all the fuss could be about but it is too late as the hat crunches under his wheels. Thomas backs up and there, in front of him, is a squashed top hat.
The man offers to buy The Fat Controller a new hat but The Fat Controller states his hats come specially made from a store on the Mainland. The man says he was going to go to the Mainland after his fishing trip and promises to send a new hat. During the night, Thomas takes the post train and one parcel is for The Fat Controller. In the morning, The Fat Controller opens the parcel and inside is a fine new top hat and a note from the man.
