Hiro (ヒロ in Japanese) is an old and wise tender engine from Japan who is famously known as the "Master of the Railway".

Personality[]

Hiro is a wise engine who is willing to help his friends when they are in trouble.

Technical Details[]

Basis[]

Hiro is a 2-6-2 tender engine. In the original television series, Hiro was a JNR D51, a class of 2-8-2 tender engines designed by Hideo Shima. He retains a similar outline in All Engines Go, however his new wheel arrangement makes him closer to a JNR C58, a class of 2-6-2 tender engines also designed by Hideo Shima.

Livery[]

Hiro is painted black with gold lining, boiler bands and fittings and red wheels. He has the number 51 painted on the sides of his tender in white and he has gold blank nameplates on the sides of his smoke deflectors.

Trivia[]

  • Hiro is currently one of the only characters created by former head writer and voice director Sharon Miller to appear in All Engines Go, alongside Winston.
  • Hiro's UK voice actor Dai Tabuchi also voiced Hanzo - another Japanese engine - in Chuggington.
  • According to writer Rick Suvalle, Hiro was originally mentioned as being "Master of the Railway" in Race for the Sodor Cup, however this was later cut likely due to either time constraints or the lack of context for child audiences.[1]
  • Hiro is one of the only tender engines to keep their original number of tender wheels, the others being James, Emily and Yong Bao.
