Horse-Drawn Railways[]
Horse-drawn railways, also known as a plateway, tramway, dramway or wagonway, were an early form of rail transport that utilised horses to pull trains. Horses were also used for shunting.
A horse-drawn tram appeared in Stephen's flashback as an example of how railways were run before the invention of steam engines.[1]
Gaku Hamada visited the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway and rode on the horse-drawn tram No. 32 while learning about how the railway operates.[2]
Two shire horses once hauled a Troublesome Truck into a siding to be mended when it broke away from Thomas' goods train.[3]
Thomas once discovered an old tram car at the bus garage and Bertie mentioned how tram cars were used on the old tramway long before buses. The tram car was later renovated and is now pulled by Ned the horse for visitors at the Sodor's Rare Breeds Centre.[4]

- In the original script of Thomas and the Magic Railroad, Patch and his horse are sent to retrieve the missing coal truck. The horse's hooves are permanently etched with gold dust, allowing it to go through the Magic Railroad.
Horse-Drawn Boats[]
A horse-drawn boat is a historic boat operating on a canal, pulled by a horse walking beside the canal on a towpath.
The River Rose was hauled up and down rivers by a horse named Sam. One day, Edward took the horse's place after he lost a horseshoe.[5]
Biscuit the horse was enlisted to tow the Skipper's canal boat to the end of the towpath by the Wharf after its motor had broken down.[6]

Horse-Drawn Ploughs[]
Horse-drawn ploughs are an agricultural implement that utilises horses to pull a plough through the soil, allowing farmers to cultivate land more efficiently than traditional methods. They became obsolete when motorised tractors came into use.
Ned the horse's working life on the farm ceased when he was replaced by a tractor.[7] Thomas would often see Mister Mighty the Shire horse ploughing in the field along his branch line.[8]
