Background Information[]

Television Series[]

Hurricane is a fictional tank engine created by Ian McCue and Andrew Brenner.

In 2017, Hurricane made his debut in the movie, "Journey Beyond Sodor".

Hurricane is voiced by Jim Howick (UK/US) in the CGI version of the series on both sides of the Atlantic, respectively.

Hurricane is based on the GER Class A55 "Decapod", an experimental tank engine named so for its ten driving wheels.

Behind the Scenes[]

CGI Model[]

In 2016, Hurricane was created from scratch in CGI by Arc Productions for the 2017 movie, Journey Beyond Sodor. The model was "hand-sculpted" in Maya, a 3D animation and modelling software.

Unlike his basis, Hurricane's four rear driving wheels are not connected to the front six and have their own separate pair of side rods, therefore making him an 0-6-4-0. This was done so that he could navigate around the tight bends in the Steelworks; had he retained the single chassis of his basis, he would be longer than Frankie and require bends that are not as sharp.

According to Sam Wilkinson, Hurricane's face was based off Channing Tatum.[1]
