For other uses, see Ice Cream Railway Vans.

Ice Cream Vans are specialised vans used to transport ice cream and other related ingredients.

The Sodor Ice Cream Factory own at least four of these vans. On one hot summer's day, the Ice Cream Factory manager arranged for Thomas to deliver ice cream to Norramby as the stall there had ran out of ice cream.[1]

Technical Details[]

Basis[]

The ice cream vans are based on London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) Diagram 102 12 Ton Ventilated Vans. These vans were owned by the LNER with some later being owned by British Railways.

Livery[]

The ice cream vans are painted cream with the Sodor Ice Cream Factory logo on their sides. Their rooftops are painted dark grey.

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • Two of the ice cream vans are currently on display at Drayton Manor.
  • The Hornby model of the ice cream van is based on an LNER 8 Ton Ventilated Refrigerator Van rather than the LNER 12 ton Ventilated Van seen in the television series. This was presumably done for the sake of realism, as non-refrigerated vans would be unsuitable for the transportation of ice cream and would likely cause it to melt enroute.
  • In the merchandising ranges, the ice cream vans are repurposed from the Utility Vans, Lynton and Barnstaple Railway Open Trucks and Vans.
