Intermodal Containers are a type of shipping container designed to be used across several modes of transport, including road, rail and sea. These containers are usually made of steel and come in several standard sizes.
As of 2025, Tidmouth Harbour has been expanded to handle intermodal container traffic. In practise, this is mostly overflow for smaller container ships bound for busier Mainland ports, who find Tidmouth to be more convenient. Class 66 diesel engines from the Mainland regularly visit to handle this traffic, though Henry and James also handle some of these trains (with locomotives being exchanged to take the trains onto the Mainland).
