Jack's Snow Rescue is a cancelled episode of Jack and the Sodor Construction Company.

Plot

A snowfall occurs overnight. The Sodor Construction Company are tasked with various jobs. Byron must clean the highway, Ned and Oliver are to clean the park and school area, and Alfie must clean the carpark.

Meanwhile at the sheds, Jack is disappointed that Miss Jenny has left him without a job to do. Patrick and Buster still reassure him everything is okay.

Shortly after, Jenny Packard has an urgent word with Jack. A group of schoolchildren have been stranded up at a remote camp high in the mountains.

Jack is worried about the task. But he still is fitted with his snowplough and leaves to help the children with Miss Jenny and her dog Mike in her land rover.

As they get higher into the mountains, the snow gets deeper and deeper. Slowed by the rigorous work Jack loses sight of Jenny, who is in a hurry to get to the children.  After a brief spell of near-panic, Jack realises that he can follow the tracks Jenny's left in the snow. He continues to follow.

He hits a spot of bother when he reaches a fork in the road, and Jenny's tracks appear to head off in both directions at once. Then he hears Mike's distinctive bark. Mike shows him the fork to take.

The snow is so deep, even Jenny's Land Rover can't go any further without help and she's tried both routes up the hill.

Jack moves past Jenny and this is where he starts to shine. With a look of utter determination, Jack gets right down into his first gear and grinds his way up the hill. Mike leads the way, his perky tail just visible - sticking up over the tops of the snowdrifts as he hurries along up the hill.

The children have been having a whale of a time playing in the snow, but lunch is lunch and they are overjoyed to see Jack. Jenny heaps praise upon Jack for doing such a good job.  She says she'd had a feeling that morning that there might be a snow emergency.  And how glad she is that kept her best mountain snow machine free.

Jack is so overwhelmed by Jenny's praise that his face blushes an even brighter shade of red.  Then Mike the dog does a bit of heroic snow-shifting himself. Mike playfully lets fly a spray of cool snow over Jack's glowing cheeks.

Trivia

  • According to writer Paul Dawson, he was approached to write "Snow Rescue" in April 2002, and his episodes "were written in a weird (nonconventional) script layout dictated by the production company."[1] The second draft of this script was written on May 5 2002, with the document of it being created two days later.[2]
  • This is the only Jack and the Pack episode of two things:
    • The only known Jack and the Pack episode to take place in the winter.
    • The only known Jack and the Pack episode where Miss Jenny's dog companion Mike is referred by name.
  • Interestingly, Fisher-Price manufactured snow-covered models of Nelson, Oliver, Max, Kelly, Byron, Patrick and Buster as part of their TrackMaster "Sodor Snow Storm" series.
