Japan (Japanese: 日本; Nippon or Nihon; formally 日本国; Nippon-koku or Nihon-koku, literally "State of Japan") is an island country located in East Asia.

Engines from Japan appear in both Thomas & Friends and Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go. In the Thomas & Friends online video series, Really Useful Around the World, Thomas visits Japan.

Trivia

  • In Thomas & Friends, Jobi Wood only grows in Japan and Misty Island.
  • Although Thomas was able to traverse Japanese standard gauge tracks in the Really Useful Around the World shorts, the standard gauge track in Japan is actually narrower than the international standard gauge tracks, meaning that Thomas would not be able to run on Japanese rails without modifications. The majority of the Japanese rail network also uses narrow gauge and metre gauge tracks, with standard gauge tracks used exclusively by Shinkansen trains.
  • The Japanese dub of the original series was the first to have a full voice cast before both Thomas and the Magic Railroad and all specials and episodes following the twelfth series.
