Sir John Vincent Hurt, CBE (22 January 1940 - 25 January 2017) was an English actor, who was partially known for portraying wand-maker Garrick Ollivander in the Harry Potter film series; The Horned King from The Black Cauldron, the War Doctor from the 50th anniversary special of Doctor Who (thus making him the only actor in the Thomas & Friends franchise to portray an incarnation of the Doctor); Hazel in the 1978 film adaptation of Watership Down, and General Woundwort in the first two series of the 1999-2001 TV adaptation of the same name; and the title character of Jim Henson's The StoryTeller. Among other honours, he received two Academy Award nominations, a Golden Globe Award and four BAFTA Awards, with the fourth being a Lifetime Achievement recognition.
In 2015, he was one of the special guest stars in the special Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure and starred as the main antagonist, Sailor John.
Hurt passed away on 25 January 2017, following a year and a half long fight with pancreatic cancer.
