"Sometimes slowing down can be pretty cool."
― Kana

Kana Goes Slow is a magazine story illustrated using images from the All Engines Go series.

Plot[]

One day, Thomas is trying to beat Kana in a race. He tries to beat her every day, but never does because she is just too fast. Thomas wishes he could win just once, and he races away. Suddenly, Thomas realises that he's ahead. He carries on to the finish line and looks back; Kana has stopped completely. Kana has to be at Vicarstown by sunset, so Thomas decides to pull her there.

The problem is Thomas cannot go very fast with the effort of pulling Kana. It's not long before Thomas and Kana have a long line of annoyed engines behind them. Thomas decides to leave the main line and use one of his shortcuts. Thomas tells Kana that when you slow down, there's all kinds of stuff to see as they pass through a forest full of beautiful, bright butterflies.

Next, Thomas and Kana stop to laugh as they make silly reflections in the river water. Then, they come across a cow on the line and have to make noises to get it to move. Afterwards, Thomas and Kana stop to play in a flowery meadow.

At Vicarstown, a Troublesome Truck asks what took Kana so long to arrive. Kana explains all the new and wonderful things she had been doing. As soon as Sandy fixes Kana, Kana offers Thomas a race back home. But Thomas has one final thing to show Kana instead; the beautiful Vicarstown sunset. Kana has to admit that sometimes slowing down can be pretty cool.
