Kathryn Lyndsey "Kate" Holland (née Dalby)[3] (December 1944[2] - 29 November 2022[3]) was the daughter of C. Reginald and Iris Dalby.

Biography[]

When Holland was four, her father's brother gave her a Welsh Corgi named Chloe.[1]

When she was six, her father began telling her the stories that would become the stories of his book Tales of Flitterwick Harbour, which was published three years later in 1955 and dedicated to her.[1][4]

She married John Holland,[3] who was a solicitor.[1]

She worked for many years for a local children's hosiery manufacturer as Export and Marketing Manager.[1]

Holland lived in Kibworth in her later years. She died peacefully on 29 November 2022, aged 77.[2][3]

  • She and her father can be seen in the fifth illustration of Tenders and Turntables in the book Troublesome Engines: She is holding her dog Chloe on a leash.[1]
  • S.S. Kathryn was named after her.
  • In August 2024, the Kate Holland Charitable Trust, named after Holland, was launched by Ireland and Company Ltd. The trust is to provide one off grants to individuals who face financial hardship who live in Leicestershire and Rutland.[5]
