Ken Stott is an author and illustrator who illustrated the Thomas mini books. He illustrated the books from the late 1980s to 1997. His pictures were visually simple, using only one shade for each engine and black for the shadows. Despite his stylistic simplicity, Stott did include some aspects to the engines which kept his illustrations faithful to The Railway Series. These details included Thomas' running plate, which remained straight, Henry with split windows on his cab sides, and his running plate being placed above his wheels completely.
