Knapford Crossing is a level crossing between Knapford and Dryaw on the Ffarquhar Branch Line.
History[]
The original Knapford Crossing was opened in 1885 by the Tidmouth, Knapford and Elsbridge Light Railway. In 1925, Thomas was stopped here by a signal after leaving his guard behind at Knapford. Later, in 1948, Bertie was held up at the crossing when he and Thomas had a race.
When Knapford station was moved north of the River Els in 1956, the crossing was also moved further north of its original site, with a similar gatekeeper's house to the original being erected alongside it.
Just before Thomas was due to return from the National Railway Museum in early 1991, George was sent to widen the road near to the crossing. A stray cone left over after the workmen had finished blew under Daisy's wheels on the day of Thomas' return, causing Daisy to almost miss the event.
