Knapford Yards is a large shunting yard behind Knapford station.
History
Knapford Yards are by far the largest shunting yard on the Island, and are where most of the rolling stock is stored when not in use. They are directly behind the station and nearby the engine sheds and harbour.
There are several large warehouses in the yard, which at one point included the Sodor Shipping Company building. Between the eleventh and sixteenth series, a carriage shed and yard was also located behind the main goods yard.
These yards were originally managed by Percy after his arrival on Sodor and were later taken over by Duck when Percy was sent to help construct the New Harbour.[1] When Diesel first came to Sodor, he was trialled in these yards, but refused Duck's instructions and ended up taking the wrong trucks.[2] Duck later left the yards after being awarded his own branch line.[3]
Several engines are known to be resident shunters at the yards, including Stanley, Charlie, Diesel, Stafford and later Philip. Before moving to Vicarstown, Rosie was also frequently seen in the yards. On occasion, Thomas, Percy and Nia have also come to the yards to help out.
