"You havene't refueled at all, and you're running really low on coal..."
"But why didn't you guys say anything?"
"WE DID!"
"At every single station!"
― Aubrey, Shane and Aiden

Laid Back Shane is the twelfth episode of the twenty-third series.

Plot

Shane wakes up one morning, scheduled to bring his coaches Aubrey and Aiden to the Red Centre. At the starting station, they meet Thomas, who is making a delivery to the same place. Shane and Thomas go there together and take in the surrounding sights along the way. Some of these sights include emu birds and koalas.

Mid-way through their trip, Aubrey and Aiden remind Shane to refuel on coal, warning him that it’s not good to be stranded in the desert, however, he ignores them and is self-assured that he will make it. At the next coal depot, Thomas takes the chance to refuel, while Shane still refuses.

At the next coal depot, Aubrey and Aiden finally convince Shane to refuel, however a workman informs them that they’ve run out of coal and there’s uncertainty when the next delivery will arrive. Thomas continues while the coaches advise Shane to wait till the delivery arrives, however, he catches up to Thomas, much to his surprise and the coaches’ annoyance. As they reach a crossing, Shane finally runs out of coal and asks why Aubrey and Aiden didn’t remind him of it, which they say that they did, but he wouldn’t listen. Shane and Thomas agree that he should take the passengers to their destination and come back with some coal.

While waiting, Shane tries to assure himself that everything will be okay, and starts to dream about coal until Thomas arrives with Aubrey and Aiden and a truck of coal. The coaches tease Shane while he thanks them in return.
