Livestock Wagons are rolling stock used for transporting animals such as cattle, pigs and sheep. The North Western Railway owns several types of these wagons.

Basis

These trucks are based on Great Western Railway (GWR) MEX B Diagram W8 cattle wagons.

Livery

These wagons are painted brown with black roofs. Some also have dark green doors.

Trivia

  • Between the second and ninth series, the cattle trucks models were Tenmille kits. From the tenth series onwards, their models were scratch-built.
  • The Bachmann and Hornby releases of the cattle trucks use LMS cattle truck toolings.

These wagons are a freelance design and are not known to be based on any specific type of wagon.

Livery

These wagons are painted faded red with black bracing and grey roofs.

  • A total of two of these wagons were built in Gauge 1 for the model series.
    • The ninth series episode Percy and the Oil Painting marks the only time both wagons are seen in a train together.
    • Sometime before the tenth series, one of the wagons' roofs was mistakenly swapped with that of a GWR cattle truck.
  • One of the purple livestock wagons was briefly on display at the Discover Thomas & Friends Exhibition at Drayton Manor Resort.
  • In the Golden Books, the Bean Vans are modified from the livestock wagons with covered sides.

Basis

These wagons are a freelance design and are not known to be based on any specific type of wagon. The chassis is recycled from a 1-Plank Truck.

Livery

These wagons are painted dark blue with grey roofs.

In the My Thomas Story Library books, the wagons are painted brown with black roofs and red bufferbeams.

Stray Animal Wagons

Stray Animal Wagons are small livestock wagons with folding ends and sides which act as ramps. They are often used to transport animals which have wandered out of their enclosures.

Technical Details

Basis

The wagons have no specific basis, though use the chassis of a GWR Diagram V24 ventilated van.

Livery

These wagons are painted black with brown bracing.

Stray Animal Wagons are long livestock wagons with folding ends and sides which act as ramps. They are often used to transport larger animals.

Technical Details

Basis

The wagon is a modified Taff Vale Railway Macaw G fitted with a modified version of the top half of a stray animal wagon.

Livery

These wagons are painted black with brown bracing and a grey chassis.

Basis

These wagons are based on LNER cattle wagons but cut down as open wagons.
