The Lorne House is an English bed and breakfast hotel, located between the Middle Hill and Box railway tunnels in Box Hill, Wiltshire, England. It is one of the former childhood homes of Wilbert Awdry, known then as Journey's End. He lived in the house from 1920 until August 1928, from the age of 9 to 17.

As a boy, Wilbert would often hear trains go by at night which gave him inspiration for his stories in The Railway Series. Hearing the whistle signals between the train engine and banker as they slowly climbed the gradient would serve as the eventual basis for the story of Edward and Gordon, with Wilbert later stating that "little imagination was needed to hear in the puffings and pantings of the two engines the conversation they were having with one another". Further passion for railways would come from the model railway in the greenhouse set up by Wilbert's father, the Reverend Vere Awdry, appointing his son as "Superintendent of the Line".

On 11 August 2012, Awdry's children, Christopher, Hilary and Veronica, along with members of their families, visited the Lorne House to unveil the blue plaque honouring both his life and his association with his former childhood home.[1]
