Mermaid is a large cargo ship registered to the port of Liverpool which delivers cargo to Tidmouth Harbour. She mostly delivers crates of fish, which are loaded into the Flying Kipper to be distributed across the Island of Sodor and the Mainland.

Mermaid is painted white with a brown wheelhouse. She has a black hull with white handrails and a red stripe along the bottom. Her funnel is red with a white band around the middle and a black top. It has "MERMAID LIVERPOOL" written on stern in white lettering.

• Mermaid's livery is almost identical to that of S.S. Kathryn, another vessel seen at Tidmouth Harbour. It is possible they are owned by the same company.
