Moel Siabod is named after a neighbouring mountain of the same name. Built specially for the Snowdon Mountain Railway in 1896, No. 5 was manufactured by the Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works of Winterthur, Switzerland.

Moel Siabod was withdrawn from service in 2015 to endure extensive maintenance and rebuilding. She re-entered service in early 2017.
