Arran Mail[]

Arran Mail is a Scottish coastal vessel that visits the Island of Sodor.

Basis[]

Arran Mail is based on the real motor vessel of the same name. Arran Mail was built in by the William Denny and Brothers and entered service in the mid 1930's for the Caledonian Steam Packet Company and London, Midland and Scottish Railway. Her purpose was to be provide additional facilities for the transport of mail cargo and motor cars, between Ardrossan and Arran, and had accommodation for 10 passengers.

Livery[]

Arran Mail has a black hull and a deep red keel, a white superstructure and a brown open-wheelhouse panel. Her funnel is black with a white section around the middle.

  • In the Songs from the Station DVD game, a recolored cargo ship based on Arran Mail with the funnel removed appears at Brendam Docks.

The Tuna Clippers are motor vessels that transport cargo and machinery to Brendam Docks. They only appeared in the Golden Books.

Basis[]

The tuna clippers are based on Gulf Star, a New Orleans clipper, which was operated by the Avondale Marine Ways Company, New Orleans from the 1950s. In real-life, this vessel was a fishing boat specifically used for the harvesting of tuna. However, in the Thomas & Friends Golden Books, they were heavily modified to accommodate the transportation of intermodal containers and narrow gauge engines.

The tuna clippers are painted white, their hulls have dark blue lining and a deep red keel.
