- “I thought you said you could outrun danger, Henry!
Fancy being buried under a mountain of rubbish!”
- ―Skarloey referring to Henry
Mountains and Mess! is a magazine story.
Skarloey spots a landslide coming towards him and manages to get clear from most of it, but a few rocks dent his funnel and hit his wheels. The Fat Controller sends Henry to take him to the works to be checked out. Henry tells Skarloey if he was big and mighty like him, he would have been able to have easily outrun the danger. A few days later, Diesel runs past Henry with a load of rubbish which tips over Henry. Skarloey sees everything and has the last laugh.
- Skarloey is as large as Henry and even bigger than Oliver, despite being a narrow gauge engine.
