Mr. Conductor is the deuteragonist of Thomas and the Magic Railroad. He is a 20-centimetre tall conductor who originated from the Shining Time Station television series episodes. He was portrayed by Ringo Starr on the first series of Shining Time Station, by George Carlin for the rest of the show, including its follow up Mr. Conductor's Thomas Tales and by Alec Baldwin in Thomas and the Magic Railroad, each one being a different member of the Conductor family.

― Mr. Conductor, Thomas and the Magic Railroad

Mr. Conductor is the ever cheerful, 18-inch-tall conductor who regularly visits the Island of Sodor.

Biography

The first Mr. Conductor was portrayed by former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr during the first season, as well as the television special "'Tis A Gift". He was initially very wary about newcomers, but gradually decided to reveal himself to Matt, Tanya, Stacy, and Harry. He provided a voice of reason to Matt and Tanya, introducing them to stories about Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends to show them a way to solve a problem the two friends encountered. It was thanks to him leaving his hat behind when he temporarily left the station during "Is This the End?" that J.B. King realised how important Shining Time Station was to his childhood friend, deciding in the end to leave the station open.

Following the events of "'Tis a Gift", Mr. Conductor decided to leave Shining Time Station to assist Mr. Nicholas at the North Pole.

Mr. Conductor is the ever cheerful, 18-inch-tall conductor who regularly visits the Island of Sodor.

Biography

When the second season began, the second Mr. Conductor (portrayed by comedian George Carlin) (a cousin of the first Mr. Conductor) arrived at the station to take the first one's place as there is always a Mr. Conductor living in Shining Time Station. The second Mr. Conductor was as friendly and wise as his cousin, also using stories about Thomas and his friends to provide a lesson for Dan, Kara and Becky. Easily more fun loving and laid back than his cousin, Mr. Conductor usually appeared in many other outfits than his usual conductor's uniform. He was also armed with several forms of gold dust (as well as the wishing star. He also has a habit of playing tricks on Horace Schemer|Schemer on occasion).

Mr. Conductor (Alec Baldwin)

“Sparkle, sparkle, sparkle!”
― Mr. Conductor, Thomas and the Magic Railroad

Mr. Conductor is the ever cheerful, 18-inch-tall conductor who regularly visits the Island of Sodor.

Biography

The third Mr. Conductor (portrayed by actor Alec Baldwin) lived at the station during the events of Thomas and the Magic Railroad (which delved further into the sources of his family's magic gold dust and just how important that magic was to the smooth running of both Shining Time Station and Sodor). It is never specified if this Mr. Conductor was related to the other two like how George Carlin's Mr. Conductor is Ringo Starr's Mr. Conductor's cousin.

Thomas and the Magic Railroad

Mr. Conductor travelled to the Island of Sodor to help out while Sir Topham Hatt was on holiday. His journey from Shining Time was getting bumpier and bumpier because he was running out of gold dust. That night, while at Tidmouth Sheds, Diesel 10 came to question him about the lost engine (Lady). After scaring Diesel 10 off with some sugar, he had a dream where Shining Time and the Island of Sodor was falling apart. The following day, he searched for the windmill but he got lost. Luckily, he found a note from a rabbit who had left him some carrots and celery because they were good for the brain.

The celery made him think of his cousin, Junior, who was at the beach. After telling Junior to come help and to bring the rest of his gold dust, Mr. Conductor tried to find the windmill. While walking towards the viaduct, Diesel 10 came up from behind him and scooped him up into his claw. Diesel 10 threatened to drop Mr. Conductor into the viaduct, but Mr. Conductor used some pliers to cut the pipes controlling the claw.

Mr. Conductor was flung away from the viaduct all the way to the windmill. When he arrived at the windmill he found the clue to the source of the gold dust. After he read the clue, Junior and Lily arrived on Thomas. The reunion was short lived, however, because Junior climbed up to the windmill and was flung onto Diesel 10. Later that night, Mr. Conductor sent Thomas through the magic buffers to bring Lily back to Muffle Mountain where her grandfather lived.

Mr. Conductor was by the magic buffers when James and Junior arrived. Later that day, Thomas and Lady came through the magic buffers carrying Burnett Stone (Lily's grandfather), Patch, Lily, and Mutt. Diesel 10, Splatter and Dodge arrived to destroy Lady. Diesel 10 chased Lady and Thomas to destroy them. However, Diesel 10 fell off the viaduct, and Thomas and Lady arrived safely back to Mr. Conductor where they made him more gold dust.
