The National Coal Board (abbreviated as N.C.B.) was an organisation created to nationalise all the coal mining industries across the Mainland.
The National Coal Board owned an plank truck, which was presumably used for transporting coal from the Mainland to the Island of Sodor. This truck was painted orange with the initials "N.C.B." painted on his sides in white.
The National Coal Board also owned two old Hunslet diesels, who were bought by the Skarloey Railway for parts to build Fred.[1]
