Thomas the Tank Engine Wiki

Newly Painted is a magazine story.

Plot[]

James is very proud of his red paint but it has been a while since he had gotten a repaint and now his paint is starting to become dull and scratched. One morning, The Fat Controller tells James the he is to be repainted. James is extremely delighted! In the yard, James is placed on a siding where workers begin to give James a fresh coat of red paint. When they are all finished, James feels like a new engine.

James then begins to show off to his friends. Some like Thomas go along with James' boasting by making cheeky jokes but others like Gordon and Henry complain that James is getting too big for his wheels.

Later, in the sheds, one workman is carrying a shovel as he walks. As he makes a sudden turn, the shovel slams right into James and causes a scratch on his new paint. James is so upset that he refuses to leave his shed next morning. The Fat Controller is notified and tries to convince James that the scratch is nothing worth getting upset over and that maybe if he stops boasting, no one will make fun of him. James slowly rolls out of the shed and whistles a greeting to Gordon and Henry, who do not see the scratch at all!
