Thomas the Tank Engine Wiki

No More Diesel is a magazine story.

Plot[]

Diesel is cross when he is asked to take a large shipment of coal to the big station. When Percy asks him why, Diesel retorts that coal is dirty, while diesel oil is much more modern and efficient. Not having time to start an argument, Percy hurries off to the harbour yard.

Diesel continues to refuse to pull the train, until the stationmaster threatens to call the Fat Controller. Not wanting to be sent away again, Diesel reluctantly agrees.

When he reaches the big station, Diesel strikes up a conversation with Daisy, both agreeing that coal is dirty and outdated. Gordon and James are both annoyed by this and retort that all the finest engines run on coal. Although he does not want to argue, BoCo also agrees with Diesel and Daisy. Soon, all of the engines are arguing about whether diesel oil or coal is better, to the amusement of Diesel.

One morning, Diesel's driver does not turn up and he is left in the shed at the harbour. Percy and Duck giggle as they pass him and he wishes to be able to go out again. When his driver does arrive, he explains that the shipment of fresh diesel oil has been delayed for a few days. Diesel, Daisy and BoCo now all wish they could run on coal for a day or two!
