This article is about narrow gauge carriages. You may be looking for standard gauge ones.

Open-topped carriages are passenger coaches with no roofs. These can only found on Sir Robert Norramby's Estate Railway.

Millie has three open-topped carriages, which are narrow gauge replicas of the coaches used by Stephen and Glynn.

Biography

Thomas & Friends

Luke once pulled one of these coaches while he and Millie swapped jobs for the day. Sir Topham Hatt once rode in one of these carriages dressed as Father Christmas.

Technical Details

Basis

The open-topped carriages are based on the third class four-wheeled carriages used by the Liverpool and Manchester Railway in the 1830s. However, they have been re-scaled to narrow gauge.

Livery

These carriages are commonly painted red with black lining and gold door handles, they also have the Ulfstead Castle crest on both sides. A blue variant was also seen in King of the Railway and The Lost Puff, this carriage does not feature the Ulfstead Castle crest on it's sides.

Appearances

Trivia

  • Throughout King of the Railway and the seventeenth series, the open-topped carriages inconsistently change in height. This is because a blue narrow gauge carriage was mistakenly used instead of the standard gauge variant.
