- "You're lazy and slack! You're lazy and slack!"
- ― Orange Coaches
Orange Stroudley Coaches are small four-wheeled coaches used on local passenger trains. Annie and Clarabel are two of these coaches.
Personalities
Like many coaches on Sodor, they do not appreciate being bumped by an engine. If they are not handled properly they will refuse to go further, as shown when James damaged a brake pipe by bumping his coaches and speeding.
Technical Details
Basis
The orange coaches are based on LB&SCR 4-wheeled coaches built to a design by Stroudley between 1872 and 1892. Several coaches of this type are preserved on the Bluebell Railway and the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.
In the television series, the brake coaches' guard compartments do not have the duckets that feature on real LB&SCR examples, instead having a piece of card or plastic over this area. They also had different styled rooftops to the ones seen on the L&SCR.
The red coaches share the same basis, however, they have different roofs and guard's compartments.
A variety of different class types have appeared in the television series. Each of these can be identified by the number of windows and interiors.

The coaches are painted dull orange with white rooftops.
In some magazine stories and books, Green Express Coaches and Red Express Coaches are inaccurately illustrated based on these coaches. Further colour variants of these coaches appear in several other pieces of media.

Trivia
A coach with a face in the first series.
- In the first series, Annie and Clarabel's models are reused without painted names for faced versions of these coaches.
- In some animated learning segments, these coaches appear with two faces, one on each end.[1]
- In annual and magazine stories, the Skarloey and Culdee Fell Railways are sometimes inaccurately illustrated using scaled-down versions of these coaches.
