Background Information[]
Television Series[]
The orange coaches are fictional standard gauge coaches.
In 1984, the orange coaches made their debut in the first series episode, Thomas and Gordon and last appeared in the second series episode, Edward's Exploit.
The orange coaches are based on LB&SCR 4-wheeled coaches built to a design by Stroudley between 1872 and 1892. Several coaches of this type are preserved on the Bluebell Railway and the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.
The red coaches share the same basis, however they have different rooftop designs and styled-brake coaches.
Gauge 1 models[]
The models of the orange coaches were made using Tenmille Gauge 1 LB&SCR Stroudley coach kits.
In the first series episodes Thomas and Gordon and James and the Coaches, Annie and Clarabel's models were reused for the sentient coaches.
In the second series episode The Missing Coach, the orange coach's model was reused as Thomas' Special Coach. But due to the cancellation of this episode, Thomas' special coach was never featured in the television series.

Close-up model[]
Close-up models were required for scenes where the engines and rolling stock had to interact with the close-up scale figures.
A close-up model of the orange coach was not built, and Annie and Clarabel's model was reused. The other side of this model is the Green Express Coach, which was repainted red in the fourth series.
