No. 178 was built in 1910. It arrived at the Bluebell in 1969. It returned to traffic on 27 February 2010 following an extensive overhaul and was restored to full SE&CR goods livery. However in late 2014, after four years in ticket the locomotive failed with issues with its cylinder block. After a repair which failed, it was found that the cylinder block had the same crack since when it arrived in 1969. No. 178 saw out the remainder of its ticket on light duties only, including a spell operating shuttle trains at the National Railway Museum in York during 2017. Its boiler certificate expired in October 2020. No. 178 is presently on static display at the One:One Collection in Margate and is placed in the entrance hall.
