Overhead lines are wires used to transmit electrical energy to trams, trolleybuses and locomotives on Sodor and abroad. In The Railway Series, the only form of railway electrification on Sodor is on the Peel Godred Branch Line. British Railways electrified parts of its rail network in the 1950s, as part of their modernization plan.
Overhead lines are seen in the television series as part of the tramway going through Vicarstown. They are also seen being used on many railways in other countries.
