Many painters have been seen around the Island of Sodor.
Standard Painters[]
The Standard Painters paint engines and buildings. They mostly work at the engine works, such as Tidmouth Engine Works and the Sodor Steamworks.
Biography[]
When Sir Topham Hatt's office at Knapford was going to be repainted, two painters were at Knapford and one asked a workman if Sir Topham Hatt would still be using his office. The workmen replied that he would find out when Sir Topham Hatt would be going, to which the painter stated that it would’ve been better if he went sooner, so they could get started. Percy overheard the conversation and the men caught him listening, to which he quickly left the station. The next morning, Percy saw the painters clearing Sir Topham Hatt's office and after he heard one say that they had to clear everything, he quickly went to Tidmouth Sheds to tell the other engines.

Due to Henry releasing smoke, the painter could not see very well, which caused him to fall off his ladder and land onto a tarpaulin placed on top of Henry's cab. The painter's paint pot fell onto Henry's dome, covering it with white paint, which the painter sneered at.

Michael[]
Michael is a painter who works for the North Western Railway.
Biography[]
When Michael was new to the job, he was nervous, but soon settled in. One of his jobs was to paint Donald and Douglas. They told Michael to take off their nameplates so they would not get splashed with paint. They also told Michael that all the other painters always started by painting their tenders. With no numbers or nameplates, Michael did not know which twin is which. However Sir Topham Hatt arrived and soon sorted out the problem.[1]
