Notable Passenger Ships[]

Ocean Liners[]

S.S. Vienna[]

S.S. Vienna is a large ocean liner that was often moored at Brendam Docks.

S.S. Vienna brings passengers and holidaymakers to Sodor, dropping them off at Brendam Docks. She once delivered the Chinese Dragon for Thomas to take to a carnival.[1] She also delivered post for Thomas and Percy.[2]

Technical Details[]

Basis[]

S.S. Vienna is based on the S.S. Kronprinz Wilhelm, a German Ocean Liner scuttled in World War I. S.S. Roxstar shares the same basis.

Livery[]

S.S. Vienna is painted white with gold lining. Her funnels are painted white with gold bands. From Buzz, Buzz to Oliver Owns Up, her funnels were repainted red with black bands. In the CGI Series, she reverted back to her original white funnels, however, her gold lining across her hull was omitted.

Behind the Scenes[]

The S.S. Vienna originated from Thomas & Friends sister show, TUGS.

According to an interview with Jeremy King on Sodor Island Fansite (SiF), S.S. Vienna's model was described as very light as it was made from Plywood, being around 12 feet long. A model maker from Germany built her and brought the model over by vehicle. As Tugs only had one moving ocean liner prop, her model was modified to make The Duchess and Princess Alice. After the show's cancellation, her model was brought over to Brendam Docks in the third series carrying the same livery.

From the fourth series onwards, the model of S.S. Vienna was used for S.S. Roxstar and was painted a different livery, sporting a livery similar to the before mentioned The Duchess and Princess Alice.
