Percy's Whistle is a magazine story.
Plot[]
Every morning, Percy takes trucks to the coal hopper to be loaded. Percy likes to whistle loudly to the trucks and thinks it makes working with them more fun. The trucks however grow annoyed with Percy's whistle and decide to play a trick on him that they had done once before.
The next day, they bump each other hard and the last truck misses the coal chute before it can be loaded and the coal falls over Percy instead. Once the line is clear, Percy's driver informs him there is no time to clean him and that they must get the trucks to the harbour. As he makes his way down the branch line, Percy tries whistling to cheer himself up but nothing happens. The driver believes the coal has damaged the whistle and the trucks are delighted that their plan has worked.
Percy decideds to pay the trucks out. He always whistles to inform them he is slowing down and arriving at a station but this time, he can not. As they approach the harbour, Percy's brakes come on and with a sudden stop, the trucks bump into each other. One is bumped so hard that it comes off the rails. Percy's driver says it serves them right and that the whistle is not severely damaged but just needs cleaning. The fireman cleans it out and Percy gives a happy peep.
