Thomas the Tank Engine Wiki

Percy Makes the News is a magazine story.

Plot[]

A local newspaper reporter comes to the station to write a story on steam engines. He meets Percy and asks him some questions. Percy begins to boast about just how important he is. The reporter takes Percy's photograph and then leaves. That evening, Percy's driver shows him that he made the front page of the paper. This causes Percy to become big-headed and feel that - due to his new found fame - he should not have to do certain jobs.

The Fat Controller grows cross with Percy and reminds him that no engine is more important than the others and if Percy keeps up this behaviour, he may be replaced. The other engines are also growing cross with Percy. James informs him that - while they are happy he got in the paper - they are tired of his boasting and wish he would go back to his old self.

A few days later, the reporter returns for a follow up story on Percy. He climbs into the cab and begins to fiddle with Percy's controls. Percy informs him that only his driver is allowed to do that but it is too late as he begins to move. The reporter jumps out but Percy luckily does not go far as he bumps into a tar wagon and gets splashed with tar. The Fat Controller tells the reporter off, who is able to get one more photo of Percy.

That evening, the photo of Percy covered in tar makes the front page and Percy hopes his friends can forgive him for being boastful. They do and everyone has a laugh over the new photo, while Percy promises not to be so silly again.
