Percy and the Ice Cream is a magazine story.
Plot[]
One day, while waiting to take a train, the Fat Controller asks Percy to take a van of supplies for Mrs. Thompson's shop to the village. Percy is offended when the Fat Controller reminds him not to dawdle and sets out to be as fast as he can be.
When Percy gets to the harbour, he sees a big ship being unloaded by a crane. Percy enjoys watching the crane so much that he does not want to go again when the signal turns green. Percy's driver and fireman remind him of the Fat Controller's warning, but Percy brushes it off as it is too hot to be rushing about.
Percy eventually sets off, but before he reaches the village, his driver and fireman smell something sweet. They then notice that something white is dripping out of Percy's van.
When they get to the village, the driver and fireman open the van only to find a lot of melted ice cream inside, which spills onto the platform. Neither the stationmaster nor Mrs. Thompson are pleased, as the ice cream has made a mess and Mrs. Thompson cannot sell the melted ice cream. The Fat Controller is cross with Percy too, and banishes him to the shed for the rest of the day.
