Percy and the Painting is a magazine story illustrated using photographs from the television series.

Percy is at the docks collecting a famous artist who wanted to paint a picture called "The Spirit of Sodor". He was to show the painter all of the sights of Sodor. Soon, they arrive at Shen Valley, but the artist does not think that the valley is "special". So, Percy takes him to Norramby Beach, but the artist think it is "too yellow". Finally, Percy takes him the Main Station and the artist tells Percy there is nothing special on Sodor. Percy is upset and abruptly tells the artist that everything on Sodor is special.
