Background Information[]
Philip is a fictional standard gauge diesel boxcab locomotive created by Ian McCue and Andrew Brenner.
In 2016, Philip made his debut in the nineteenth series of Thomas & Friends in the episode The Little Engine Who Raced Ahead. He last appeared in the twenty-fourth series episode Gordon and Rebecca, Coming Through!, which was released in 2021.
Philip is voiced by Rasmus Hardiker (UK/US) in the CGI version of the series on both sides of the Atlantic, respectively. Contrary to his American basis, the character was portrayed with a British accent.
Philip is based on a Pennsylvania Railroad's diesel-electric Class A6 "Boxcab" switcher, but with the curved back end and extra door of the AGEIR (Alco, General-Electric and Ingersoll-Rand) prototype boxcab #8835, albeit with five windows instead of seven.
