Platelayers are railway staff who build and maintain railway tracks, including all its components, such as the rails and sleepers.
Biography[]
When Henry was allowed out of his tunnel, some platelayers first demolished the wall and relaid the rails, allowing Henry to exit the tunnel.
After Falcon derailed at the Mountain Road while pulling a train with Duke, a platelayer helped the engines' crews to secure Falcon. When Duke required water, the platelayer went to his nearby cottage, explained the situation to his wife and the passengers borrowed containers to fill water into Duke's tank.
When Skarloey was stuck due to a landslide, Rheneas arrived with some platelayers to rerail Skarloey and mend the line.

- According to Sodor: Reading Between the Lines, Mr. Hugh originally joined the Skarloey Railway as a platelayer in 1940.
