Races, Rescues and Runaways and Other Thomas Adventures is a US and Canadian VHS/DVD release featuring six fifth series episodes narrated by Alec Baldwin and one song. It was distributed by Anchor Bay Entertainment in 1999, 2001 and 2002. The DVD release also featured an additional song. Lionsgate released the title on DVD in 2009 and for digital download in 2013. The digital download release featured four extra episodes.
It was released on VHS in 2000 in French-speaking Canada under the title Something in the Air and Other Thomas Adventures with episodes narrated by Gérard Boucaron. The French release does not include any songs.

- This is the first VHS release to feature Accidents Will Happen.

- The background behind the crashed chicken coop and Thomas in "Bye George!" on the cover is illustrated by Owen Bell.
- Some 1999 release labels say Races, Rescues and Runaways or Races, Rescues and Runaways Other Thomas Stories.
- This was the first release to have "and Other Thomas Adventures" in its title.
- This was the last digital release by Lionsgate.
- The VUDU and Amazon digital releases include some alternative title cards, along with extra episodes from Cranky Bugs, using superimposed episode titles placed in a segment from the opening sequence displaying the title card.
- On the Starz release, there are no intermissions, and the audio has a lower pitch.
- On the preview image of the Google Play version, an image from Lady Hatt's Birthday Party was used.
- In the booklet that came with the DVD, a different image from Bye George! is used in the Pick a Story menu.
- The original VHS with a 2000-2004 styled ink label came in an original 1999 box, which means it was released in 2000, but the box was not changed until 2001.
- This is the only VHS/DVD to include all the episodes on the release (excluding ones only released on digital download).
- This is the last release to feature George's nameboard.
Goofs
- The episodes from Cranky Bugs on the VUDU and Amazon release are out of sync.
- In the booklet that came with the DVD, the Pick a Story menu states that Stories 1-4 are on the next page instead of Stories 5-6.
- On the Wooden Train Bonus Pack DVD, Murdoch's name is misspelt Murdock.
- On the Limited Edition Wooden Train Bonus Pack back cover, the letter "D" is missing for Oliver's Find.
- Percy's right side (viewer's perspective left) is cut off on the front cover of all DVD copies except the 2005 slimcase.
- There is some white residue visible on Percy's dome on the front cover.
- On the French VHS back cover, the runtime says 35 minutes, despite it being 31 minutes.
- On the 2005 slimcase DVD cover, Percy's siderods are not rendered properly and black and white ink appear, this was later fixed on the 2009 slimcase DVD.
