- Stepney is incorrectly depicted as a narrow gauge engine.
- In the Ballad of Henry, Henry has his new shape.
- Annie and Clarabel have grey undercarriages and white wheels.
- On the back cover, James' smokebox saddle is not coloured black.
- The design of the roofs on the express coaches changes between the second and third illustrations.
- Additionally, Gordon grows in length when he crosses the bridge in the third illustration.
- Emily has black buffers and a red running board.
- The ladder that leads up to Cranky's cabin is missing.
- It is said that Thomas was the engine who helped save Trevor from scrap, when in fact it was actually Edward.
- Bertie is on the platform in the final illustration.
