Rangers of the Rails is a magazine story illustrated using images from the television series. The original publication is unknown, but it was reprinted in 2024 as part of the "Classic Thomas Story Collection" series with slight alterations to the images and text.
Plot[]
One day, Nia is asked to work in the yard before taking the Sodor Rangers on a camping trip. Rebecca suggests Emily takes the Sodor Rangers instead. Emily is thrilled and soon picks up the rangers.
Emily whizzes along the rails and the Rangers cheer, but the further Emily goes, the less sure she is about having a big adventure. First, the tracks begin to wobble and then she comes to a section that's flooded. Emily is not sure what to do, but she knows that if she doesn't go through it, the Rangers will be disappointed. So, she slowly continues through the floodwater.
Then, there's even more trouble. A log has fallen across the rails. Emily decides to bash it aside, but instead she ends up derailing. Emily feels she has let everyone down.
Meanwhile, Nia has finished her jobs. On the way back to the shed, she notices the Rangers' camping equipment. She concludes Emily forgot to pick it up and she hasn't come back for it either, so she must be in trouble. Nia picks up the supplies and rushes to the rescue. Nia soon finds Emily. The Rangers have been building campfires and shelters while Emily watched. Nia and Emily spend the night with the Rangers and the next morning, Nia and the Rangers haul Emily back onto the tracks. Emily can't believe they stayed out all night and had such a fantastic adventure.
