Technical Details[]

Real-Life History[]

Ke 90 was originally built as the Tōnō Railway's No. 1 and a member of its A Class, alongside sister locomotive No. 2. Both locomotives were constructed by Dai-Nippon Kidō Tekkōbu and were completed in time for the railway's opening ceremony on 28 December 1918.

Following the absorption of the Tōnō Railway into the Japanese Government Railways (JGR) on 25 September 1926, No. 1 was renumbered Ke 90. The locomotive continued use on the railway until 30 September 1928, when the line was re-gauged. Following this, it was kept at Hamamatsu Works, partially sectioned to help teaching engineers. Ke 90 is currently preserved in this form at the SCMaglev and Railway Park.

Livery[]

Taita is painted black with white valences.

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • While Taita is shown complete in Thomas Runs with the SCMaglev, the real Ke 90 is currently sectioned to show the inner workings of a steam locomotive to visitors.
  • Taita is named after the Taita Line, part of which runs over the trackbed of the Tōnō Railway, where Taita's basis originally worked.
