David[]

David is a large salvage vessel that once resided at Brendam Docks.

David was one of the floating cranes used to rescue Percy, when he plunged into the sea after deliberately disobeying the danger sign. The cranes could not operate until high tide, thus only allowing the rescue to occur in the evening.

David has a yellow superstructure and cabin with white window surrounds, a light grey hull and a deep red keel. It has "DAVID" written in white lettering on either sides of the bow, and has "SALVAGE" in white lettering on the lower hull section.

Trivia[]

  • This vessel was created for the third series, as a smaller replacement to David which appeared in the previous series.
  • The yellow crane attached to the vessel was recycled from one of the Miniature Cranes which previously appeared in the Thomas & Friends sister series, TUGS.
  • The vessel horn is a previously recorded sound effect sourced from the British ocean liner, S.S. Arabic, but pitched at a higher tone.

Salvage Tugboats[]

The Salvage Tugboats are a pair of tugboats with flat hulls and cranes mounted on their decks. They have been seen at Brendam Canal, Brendam Docks, Tidmouth Beach and the Big Dipper.

In the fifth series, one of these tugboats salvaged Lorry 1 after he reversed into the sea, it then transported the wrecked lorry to Brendam Docks. Later on, the tugs were involved in the recovery process when Henry pulling The Flying Kipper crashed into the bay near the Lighthouse. One of them towed Henry to the docks via a barge.

In Thomas and the Magic Railroad, one of these tugs towed a barge filled with sludge and Diesel 10, who fell through a gap on the collapsing viaduct. In the sixth series, one of the tugs was used to rescue Diesel when he crash landed onto a barge.

Technical Details[]

Livery[]

The salvage tugboats have a maroon superstructure, a grey crane, a black hull with white lining, a black funnel and a white stripe along its top. In Thomas and the Magic Railroad, one of the tugboats was heavily weathered to a dirty grey/light brown colour.

Trivia[]

  • During the return transit from Thomas and the Magic Railroad, they were seemingly damaged and had to be partially reconstructed. A few changes consist of the removal of the stack, addition of more handrails, a ladder on the opposite side of the superstructure end, and an extra exhaust pipe.
  • Interestingly, the salvage tugboats are painted in the same colour scheme as the Z-Stacks from the Thomas & Friends' sister series, TUGS.
