"Look at all that beautiful, golden, sand!"
― Sandy admiring the sand

Sandy's Sandy Shipment is the tenth episode of the first series.

Plot[]

Sandy is playing in a huge pile of sand just outside of the Maintenance Yard. Carly asks her if she needs a lift, but Sandy zig-zags up the sand mound with ease and accidentally splashes sand on Thomas while sliding down. Sandy then goes on to explain why she loves sand so much and all the many things that can be done with sand, like making sand sculptures, or digging for buried treasure. At that moment, Gordon arrives with hopper trucks full of sand, which makes Sandy ecstatic. Sandy asks Gordon where he is taking the sand, and Gordon explains that he is dropping it off for Thomas to take to Whiff's Recycling Plant. Thomas then says that Whiff needs the sand for the biggest sand mountain in all of Sodor. This gets Sandy really excited, and she offers to help Thomas with his delivery. Thomas appreciates the offer, but says he does not need any help. But after Sandy fixes a leak in one of the hopper trucks, Thomas decides to at least let her tag along with him.

Along the way, Sandy proves to be a big help, much to Thomas' surprise. She stops Thomas when the ducks are crossing the tracks, she scoops up any spilled sand with her scooper, and she switches the tracks just in time so Thomas does not crash into the barrier. Thomas is very impressed, saying he was not expecting the sand shipment to be a job he needed help with. Now he is very grateful Sandy came along after all. At Quickdraw Bridge, there is a piece of track missing, and neither Thomas nor Sandy can fix the problem alone. So Sandy calls Carly to come by with a flatbed of tracks to help. Together, they place down a track and continue on their way, now with Carly tagging along too. But as they chug on, Carly and Sandy start to notice Thomas growing tired and thirsty. Sandy rushes to help Thomas at the water tower, but Thomas says that she has already proven how helpful she is. Sandy is persistent however and in her hastiness, she pulls the pipe out of the tower and splashes all three of them with water. Thomas is not thirsty anymore, but now the sand is wet and mucky.

With the sand all goopy, Thomas cannot make it up the hill without it spilling and they do not have enough time to wait for it to dry in the sun. Sandy tries every tool in her repertoire, but nothing she thinks of works. Defeated, Sandy apologizes for ruining the delivery, but Thomas and Carly encourage her, saying that they could not have made it this far without her. Sandy perks up, but is still upset about possibly not getting to zig-zag up the sand mountain. This gives Thomas and Carly an idea to zig-zag up the steep hill using the extra track on Carly's flatbed to make a switchback track. It works fantastically and they reach Whiff's Recycling Plant on time, and with Sandy leading the shipment the final stretch. To celebrate their hard work, Sandy, Thomas and Carly have an extra special slide down the biggest sand mountain on Sodor.
