Scientists are specialised people who study dinosaur bones, ancient pottery or the environment.
The Experts[]
The Experts are two people referred to as "the expert with the red moustache" and "the expert with the fuzzy beard" respectively.
Biography[]
After Oliver uncovered an object at a school building site, Sir Topham Hatt called the experts to examine it. When they arrived, one of the experts determined that it was a dinosaur bone and the other expert asked Oliver if he would do some more digging, to which he agreed, eventually uncovering a complete dinosaur skeleton.

- The expert with the fuzzy beard resembles American palaeontologist Othniel Charles Marsh.
The Palaeontologists[]
The Palaeontologists discover fossils and study the history and origins of them. They work for the Sodor Museum.
Biography[]
During one summer, the palaeontologists had dug up some old bones. When they put the bones together, it formed a skeleton of a dinosaur.
Uniform[]
The uniform worn by the palaeontologists consist of either blue or grey trousers, either a black or red tie and a white shirt with a dark beige overcoat over it.

- A palaeontologist's close-up body was repainted from one of the linesmen from the Jack and the Sodor Construction Company episode, Thomas and the Moles. His bag seen laying nearby was reused from Tom Tipper's.

The Italian Archaeologists work for the Museum of Archeology in Italy and worked on the Italian Construction Site.

The Sodor Archaeologists[]
The Sodor Archaeologists were a group of people.
Biography[]
These archaeologists were once looking for some old pottery near Thomas' Branch Line. Opposite to the field, Terence was ploughing through a small field near Hackenbeck Halt. As they worked, Terence's plough unearthed some dirty old pottery. When the Tidmouth Museum curator came to investigate, it turned out that the archaeologists had taken an out-of-date map and were digging on the wrong side of the railway.

Michelle is a climatologist who studies the earth's climate.
Biography[]
When Thomas arrived to take the climatologists to the Alaskan Research Outpost, Michelle explained to him what a climatologist does. When they arrived, the generator was broken and while it was being repaired, Thomas saw some light, and he thought that the generator was working again, however, Michelle told him it was the northern lights.

Biography[]
When Thomas arrived at the Alaskan Research Outpost, he met the scientists, who explained that their generator broke down. While the generator was being repaired, the scientists went inside Thomas' coach and his driver made cups of cocoa for them. They later went outside to see the northern lights.
