Secret Journey of Thomas the Tank Engine (Japanese: きかんしゃトーマスのヒミツ旅 誕生70年 世代を超えたおくりもの) is a 2015 Japanese television documentary of Thomas & Friends, which broadcasted on NHK to celebrate 70 years of the franchise.








  • The subtitle of this documentary was originally titled "楽しい仲間はこうして生まれた" and was scheduled to be broadcast on 16th December.
  • A rerun of this documentary was originally titled "きかんしゃトーマス 世代を超えた70年の旅 1945~2015".
  • Real-life accidents from Off the Rails, Down the Mine, Buzz, Buzz and Henry and the Elephant were referred.
  • William Middleton's illustrations from The Three Railway Engines are shown.
  • The documentary features some re-created live action sequences of Wilbert and Christopher Awdry in two scenes:
    • Wilbert tells Christopher a bedtime story of Edward's Day Out.
    • Wilbert created a wooden toy for Christopher as a Christmas present, which he names Thomas.
