Sir Topham Hatt (and later his successors, Sir Charles Topham Hatt II and Sir Stephen Topham Hatt III) has an office where he usually works when he is not talking to the engines or busy planning events. This is also where he receives messages from the stationmaster and other people about his engines whenever they are in trouble or need to talk to him.

Tidmouth Office[]

History[]

Tidmouth became Sir Topham Hatt's main office in 1925, following the agreement with the LMS allowing trains to run to Barrow-in-Furness.

Vicarstown Office[]

Vicarstown Office is a secondary office, located at Vicarstown.

History[]

The office at Vicarstown was the headquarters for the North Western Railway upon its formation in 1915. In 1925, the main office was moved to Tidmouth, though Vicarstown remained as a secondary office.

The office has a view of the turntable in Vicarstown Yards. Sir Topham Hatt was working in this office when Gordon came off the turntable and slid into the nearby ditch in 1952.

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • The office's layout in Off the Rails is identical to the layout of the Tidmouth office as seen in Trouble in the Shed. It is likely that they were originally intended to be the same office, but were later retconned to be separate.
